The name Asta has also been credited as "Max, The Dachshund Dog" in the 1935 film "Living on Velvet" - a film I am not familiar with.  It's unclear whether this is the same dog, and the fact that Asta was not a dachshund seems to indicate that it is not.  If you know the answer to this burning question - drop us a line and let us know!

The Thin Man movies were the basis for a television series in the late 1950s that starred Peter Lawford and Phyllis Kirk.  The dog that played the role of Asta in the television series was played by one of Asta's canine relatives.
